My name is Jane and I have been Keto / low carb since early 2019, when I was 49. Before that I had always eaten good home-cooked fresh food but my diet did include some carbs such as; potatoes, rice and pasta. I have rarely eaten bread as it always made me feel bloated, and fast food was never my thing. But I do love to cook and I am a feeder, I love making meals for my family.
I am a Pilates Instructor and Personal trainer, in my spare time I go to Pole-fit. I'm reasonably active, running 6-8 classes a week as well as seeing clients privately. When I went into the menopause, it was like hitting a brick wall. I struggled with a loss of energy, and felt generally unwell all the time. My joints hurt and I felt very lethargic most days. I had to drag myself out of bed every morning. I looked fit but I certainly didn't feel fit. At one point I was even thinking about reducing my work load.
To try to resolve this and improve my energy I tried cutting carbs completely with no cheat days! I also did intermittent fasting and I was astonished that my energy started to return and my joint pain disappeared. Also some of my menopause symptoms reduced or disappeared altogether. I continued to research and look at what else I could do naturally to help or get rid of the rest of the menopause symptoms. The low-carb way of eating made a big improvement in my health generally. Within just 6 months of going Keto I was able to come off my Blood Pressure tablets, that I had been on for nearly 20 years. An added bonus is that I also find maintaining a healthy weight easy.
I don't like taking medication or any sort of tablets, but for 2 years I have been taking Vitamin D and Evening Primrose oil which helps the vitamin D get absorbed more efficiently. This has definitely helped with the winter blues (SAD).
